Community Spaces

This program, run in collaboration with Taraki, was a monthly virtual gathering space for anyone engaged in mental health advocacy, to either listen or share their experiences, challenges and more. It particularly encouraged people from all backgrounds to join and share their perspectives.

The sessions provided opportunities to meet other advocates from around the world, discuss the common challenges faced, and workshop solutions. The content was directly informed by the input of its participants, in understanding the problems that are most pressing for advocates and how we can come together to move forward.

The sessions were facilitated by members of our mental health community who guided us through introductions, discussions, and activities with the intention of bringing our community closer together.

“I am really grateful to be in this space. My advocacy work has been defined and I’ve acquired best practices. Thank you so much.”

“The session on advocacy and stigma was very important...it helped me reflect on stigmas that are not discussed enough and realize how much work needs to be done.”

These chapters aimed to address the unique needs of each campus with the overall goal of breaking down barriers to achieving careers in global mental health.

University of Michigan, USA

The University of Michigan chapter was our first college chapter. It worked towards bringing together the resources that UMich has to offer in global mental health, in order to make getting experience in the field as easy as possible!

University of New Haven, USA

Our second chapter launched at the University of New Haven. It focused on working to connect to students and faculty who are interested in global mental health.

“Volunteering with GenMH has allowed me to network and work with people from around the world, and I have learned so much about what it means to be a leader and a changemaker in my community regarding mental health.”

Mental Health Book Club

Throughout the COVID-19 lockdowns globally, GenMH ran an international bookclub which brought together people from around the world, on a topic important to us all. Over the months, we shared our perspectives, gained new friends, and were able to come together to
