Event Roles

2025 Conference Co-Chair

The Co-Chair will work closely with the Conference Chair and Founder to lead the planning and execution of the 2025 Generation Mental Health Conference which will be a hybrid event (online and Kenya).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the planning commitee to define the conference theme and goals.
  • Oversee all aspects of conference planning,including timelines,deliverables and team coordination.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings,ensuring alignment across teams.
  • Represent the conference in communication with partners, sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Lead the review and selection process for submitted abstracts.
  • Support the development of the conference program, including scheduling and speaker selection.
  • Address any issues or challenges during planning and execution.


Location:  Remote

Commitment:  4-6 hours per week

Reports to:  Chief Programmes Officer and the GenMH Founder.

2025 Conference Partnerships, Fundraising and Finance Volunteer

This team will be responsible for securing partnerships, managing sponsorships, and overseeing the 2025 conference budget.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Building Partnerships:
  • Identify and approach potential partners, sponsors, and donors to support the conference financially or in-kind.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and mutual benefits.
  • Fundraising Campaigns:
  • Create and execute fundraising strategies, including  corporate sponsorships.
  • Set and meet fundraising goals to ensure the financial success of the conference.
  • Budget Management:
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the conference budget, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Allocate resources effectively across different teams and activities
  • Compliance and Financial Oversight:
  • Ensure all financial transactions comply with legal and organizational policies.
  • Track expenses and ensure funds are used efficiently and appropriately.


Location:  Remote

Commitment:  4-6 hours a week

Reports to:  Conference Co-Chairs

2025 Conference Marketing Team Volunteer

The Marketing team will report to the chairs of the conference team and will create and execute strategies to promote the conference and drive engagement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Social Media Management: 
  • Develop and manage content for the conference's social media platforms to build excitement and engage the target audience.
  • Content Creation: 
  • Design promotional materials such as flyers, videos, newsletters, and social media posts that align with the conference theme and branding.
  • Email Marketing: 
  • Draft and distribute email campaigns to potential attendees, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Website Updates:
  • Ensure the conference website is updated with relevant information, including speaker profiles, schedules, and registration details.
  • Engagement Strategy: 
  • Plan campaigns to engage attendees before, during, and after the conference, such as polls, countdowns, or live updates.


Location:  Remote

Commitment: 4-6 hours a week

Reports to:  Conference Co-Chairs

2025 Conference Operations Team Volunteer

The Operations team will report to the Co-chairs and will handle the logistical aspects of the conference, ensuring a seamless experience for attendees, speakers, and organizers. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Event Logistics: 
  • Manage schedules, timelines, and workflows to ensure all aspects of the conference are on track.
  • Platform Management: 
  • Oversee the setup and functionality of  platforms and tools for the conference, ensuring a user-friendly experience.
  • Registration and Attendance: 
  • Handle attendee registrations, send confirmations, and provide ongoing support before and during the event.
  • Speaker Coordination:
  • Liaise with speakers to confirm availability, gather materials, and coordinate session schedules.
  • Technical Support: 
  • Provide tech support for live sessions, troubleshoot issues, and ensure a smooth flow during the event.
  • Contingency Planning:
  •  Prepare backup plans to address potential issues, such as technical glitches or schedule changes.


Location:  Remote

Commitment: 4-6 hours a week

Core Team Roles

Marketing and Communications Manager (Volunteer)

We are seeking a passionate Marketing and Communications Manager with a strong interest or background in mental health to join our team. This role involves creating engaging social media content, developing communications plans, writing blog posts, and supporting our programs team in promoting our programs and activities.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong interest or background in mental health.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, additional languages a plus. 
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and content creation tools.
  • Ability to write compelling and informative content.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Basic graphic design skills (preferred, but not required).
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and email marketing tools (preferred, not required).


Location: Remote 

Commitment: 5-7 hours per week

Duration: Minimum 6 months 

Reports To: Chief Marketing Officer

Chief People Officer (Volunteer)

We are seeking a volunteer Chief People Officer (CPO) to coordinate our volunteer-led initiatives and to drive our people strategy. The CPO will oversee recruitment, onboarding, volunteer retention, and culture enhancement efforts to ensure a safe, supportive and conducive environment for all team members.


Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies in collaboration with program leads and the leadership team.
  • Manage onboarding processes and ensure compliance with volunteer agreements.
  • Lead volunteer retention initiatives, including engagement tracking and feedback collection.
  • Develop and maintain strategies for communication of human resources needs across the organization. 
  • Facilitate smooth transitions for volunteers stepping back from their roles.
  • Oversee a remote volunteer engagement team.


Location: Remote

Reports to: GenMH CEO

Commitment: 10-15 hours a month

Roles available: 1-2 (we will consider a co-lead approach for this position)
