Research & Program Evaluation Data

What research and program evaluation information do we collect?
If you choose to participate in our research & program evaluation activities (e.g., surveys, interviews, or focus groups), we may collect information such as your responses, comments, or experiences. Depending on the study, we may also collect recordings (audio, video, or written transcripts) or other relevant information you voluntarily provide.

How do we collect research and program evaluation information?
We collect research data directly from you when you consent to participate in a study. Participation is always voluntary. Before taking part, you will be provided with an informed consent form that explains the study’s purpose, what participation involves, any risks or benefits, and your rights as a participant.

Why do we collect research and program evaluation information?
We collect this information to:

  • Conduct needs assessment that advance our mission and improve services.
  • Understand how our programs are working and how these programs can be improved
  • Analyze findings to identify trends, themes, and insights.
  • Share aggregated, de-identified results in reports, publications, or presentations.

What kinds of data do we collect?
In general, we collect two types of data:

Identifiable data: This is data that could directly identify you, such as your name, email address, or phone number. We only collect this data when it is strictly necessary, such as when your participation in the program or study requires us to contact you or when we need to link your responses to one another (e.g., link two surveys you take at the beginning and end of a program).

De-identified data: This is data that could not reasonably be used to identify you, such as your age, gender, or country of residence. Most of the data that we collect is deidentified data.

How do we store and protect research and program evaluation information?
Research data is stored securely with access limited to authorized staff and research partners. The Chief Executive Officer and Chief Research and Knowledge Officer will determine which Generation Mental Health staff and volunteers require access to data. We retain research data only for as long as needed to complete the study and meet legal or funder requirements. After this period, identifiable data is securely deleted.

Do we share research and program evaluation information?
We will only share de-identified or aggregated research results unless you provide explicit consent to share identifiable information.

In some cases, approved research partners or funders may have access to identifiable data when they are joint controllers of the data.

What rights do participants have?

  • You may withdraw from a study at any time without penalty.
  • You may request that your identifiable data be deleted at any time without penalty.
  • You may ask questions or request additional information about how your data is used.

For questions about your participation or your research and program evaluation data, please contact our Chief Research and Knowledge Officer at Hannah@generationmentalhealth.org.
